Dublin Business School- DBS

October 28, 2019admin

WELCOME TO DUBLIN BUSINESS SCHOOL (DBS)

Dublin Business School (DBS) specialises in the provision of career focused business and law education as well as the delivery of contemporary programmes in the areas of arts, media, social science, humanities and psychology. This is an exciting time for you as you lay the foundations for the rest of your life. At DBS we will do all that we can to help you to make the right choices for your future and a programme of study at DBS will give you the best possible start in your career.

We have developed our courses in collaboration with industry and professional bodies, so that when you graduate, in addition to your academic qualifications, you will have the skills and knowledge to begin a successful career. Our ethos is to provide programmes which are highly focused and relevant to domestic and international students which employ innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

One of these innovations is DBS Advantage. DBS Advantage is an initiative which gives students the opportunity to engage in a development programme run parallel to their academic studies that prepares students for the workplace. It has long been recognised that the role of third level is not simply to impart knowledge but to contribute to maintaining a competitive and a ‘smart’ economy, and also to play a valuable part in the holistic development of the person.

Graduation

Part of this development relates to the fostering of ‘transferable’ or ‘generic’ skills in individuals. Examples of such skills are communication skills, planning, leadership, multi-tasking etc. – skills that are essential not just in learning or work situations, but in all areas of life. DBS Advantage assists DBS students in developing these important skills.

There is, however, more to being a student than just studying. Higher education is about developing your whole personality and participating in a wide range of activities beyond the lecture theatre, library or computer laboratory which will shape your identity in the coming years. The DBS Student Services department co-ordinate a growing number of clubs and societies each academic year, which have enjoyed success at various Intervarsity levels

Professional Accountancy

As part of Kaplan, Dublin Business School (DBS) has an unrivalled reputation as one of Ireland’s leading colleges to study professional accountancy. DBS offers comprehensive tuition options to students of ACCA and CIMA.

WHY DBS?

DBS is Ireland’s largest independent third level college. With over 9,000 students, DBS provides a comprehensive range of full-time and part-time undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and executive education programmes. Established in 1975, the College quickly gained an excellent reputation for teaching quality and standards, offering flexible and innovative learning opportunities that reflect and match the needs of students and employers.

  1. Recognition and Accreditation

Our certificate, degree and postgraduate programmes are awarded by Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI). All of these awards are recognised by the Department of Education, employers and all of the major higher education institutions for postgraduate study. Additionally, for those graduates wishing to seek professional qualifications, DBS relevant degrees are awarded recognition and exemption from professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA),the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).

  1. Commitment to World Class Teaching

Over the last 40 years DBS has built a considerable reputation for the quality of its teaching. As an institution we focus our main research activity on the constant improvement of the learning experience of our students. Evidence of the success we have achieved has come in many different ways. One particular example of this is the success achieved by our students in the examinations of the professional accountancy bodies where over 960 DBS students have achieved worldwide and national individual prizewinner success.

  1. Ladder of Opportunity / Flexibility of Award Progression

Our certificate, degree and postgraduate programmes have been designed to allow students flexibility in their career choice as we offer a range of Arts, Business and Law programmes at certificate level (level 6), ordinary degree level (level 7), honours degree level (level 8), postgraduate diploma level (level 8) and masters level (level 9) of the National Qualifications Framework. At DBS we have created a ‘ladder of opportunity and progression’ for students who can create their own study pathway to achieve their individual educational goals.

  1. Student Support Services

Feedback from students indicates that they value the student focus that our lecturers and support staff offer. At DBS, this is the key factor in our service delivery. We recognise that you may need different types of support as you progress through your studies, be it academic direction, career advice, mentoring or personal attention. We offer a comprehensive service in these areas to all our students.

  1. Dedicated Programme Management

On all of our full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the appointed Programme Leader will assist and facilitate student development during their period of academic study.

From Malaysia to DBS: International Student Story

“For anyone who is looking to move away from their native country and is interested in moving to Ireland, all I can say is do it!” – International student Rohand Nair tells us all about his experience of moving from Malaysia to Dublin to study in our latest student blog.

My name is Rohand Nair and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am a marketing student at Dublin Business School. I had chosen to attend Dublin Business School for my undergraduate degree as I was seeking a change in my environment. I was constantly travelling and moving to different countries growing up as it was a requirement of my Dad’s work and I wanted to attend a college in a country that provided me with the flexibility and resources to learn about the field I am passionate about. I have read numerous blogs and forums online and found that the environment and lifestyle in Ireland suited me best.

I am happy with my choice in college as I am in an environment where learning is personal with numerous discussions prompted by my lecturers. Moreover, the classes are smaller, which allows you to get to know your peers who will be your confidants for the next few years. The location of the college is also ideal as it is in the heart of the city centre where there are numerous shops and restaurants to spend some time in before or in-between classes.
